Claude Pepper Park/ Joseph Celestine Community Center, North Miami, Florida
The community center at Claude Pepper Park, which included a day care, administrative offices, computer room, multi-purpose rooms, teen lounge, kitchenette and basketball courts / multi-purpose auditorium within it 30,000 SF feet of construction. As a LEED Certified Gold building the challenges faced include the use of recycled materials and an environmentally challenged site that required innovative cost solutions to drainage and on site water management. The building structure is a combination of conventional reinforced concrete and prefabricated metal building systems. Working with the landscape architect dry retentions reminiscent of Florida Hardwood Hammock areas were created to help anchor the building to the site and enhance the sculptural aspects of the building on the site.
